April is Earth Month and National Volunteer Month for Raleigh Parks

April is celebrated nationwide as both Earth Month and National Volunteer Month, and Raleigh Parks embraced the spirit of service with a full month of volunteer opportunities. The results are in, and they're impressive. These impacts could not have been accomplished without our dedicated volunteers, so let's take a moment to celebrate their efforts!

Throughout April, Raleigh Parks hosted 77 volunteer events, where 1,106 volunteers contributed a total of 3,063 service hours. Of those volunteers, 576 were unique participants, meaning many individuals returned for multiple projects during the month.

Volunteer opportunities spanned a wide range of activities, from special events and the Wake County Senior Games to environmental initiatives such as the Rose Garden Program and habitat-enhancing planting projects. These events include both single-time opportunities and the efforts of our ongoing volunteers.

Together, volunteers helped achieve meaningful community and environmental impacts, including:

• 2,702 pounds of litter removed
• 1,025 plants installed
• 399 cubic yards of mulch spread in a single day
• 59 trees planted

These contributions reflect the tremendous dedication of our community and highlight how volunteerism strengthens Raleigh's parks, natural spaces, and recreation programs. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers!
