The City of Key West is proud to have received a letter from visitors and former residents in appreciation of one of our team members. Community Services Electrician Peter Diaz saw a couple in distress after the chain on one of their rented bicycles came off while they were running errands.
Terri and Paul Gedmin decided to walk the bikes to the next destination.
"As we were walking," the couple wrote in a thank you letter to the City, "one of your employees in a white cargo van stopped and asked if we needed assistance. I explained what had happened and said I could use some tools to fix the bike."
Diaz directed them to the nearby ballfield where he proceeded to repair the chain.
"We, being former employees of the FKAA and city residents before retiring," they wrote, "would like to recognize Mr. Pete for going above and beyond to help a visitor in need. We are so proud to have been a citizen of Key West and a community so willing to help someone in need."
