Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the sentencing of MARQUIUS CHAPPELLE, 52, to 25 years-to-life in state prison for fatally shooting his roommate, Ousmane Ag, in their apartment on West 152nd Street on March 7, 2023. On February 3, 2026, a New York State Supreme Court jury convicted CHAPPELLE on all counts, including Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
"Ousmane Ag's life tragically ended in the foyer of the home he shared with the very man who murdered him. While Marquius Chapelle was on the run after his irreversible and fatal conduct, Mr. Ag's loved ones were grieving his devastating loss," said District Attorney Bragg. "Despite his attempts to escape accountability, he will now serve significant time in prison."
As proven at trial, CHAPPELLE lived with his roommate, Ousmane Ag, on West 152nd Street in Sugar Hill. They often argued over issues including money and sharing a small space.
On March 7, 2023, a guest of Mr. Ag's drank some Dr. Pepper which belonged to CHAPPELLE from the fridge.
When CHAPPELLE arrived home, he banged on Mr. Ag's door, angry about the soda, and they argued about past grievances.
At approximately 10:34 p.m., CHAPPELLE fatally shot Mr. Ag two times in the shoulder and torso. A third bullet passed through an apartment wall. Mr. Ag's guest called 911 and when police arrived, CHAPPELLE had fled.
CHAPPELLE remained unapprehended for six months while he used different phones, changed his email address, and wiped his phone. He traveled to at least five other states. In Philadelphia, he allegedly tried to sell the murder weapon.
He was apprehended on September 5, 2023, coming into Port Authority on a bus.
Assistant D.A. Victoria Meyer (Trial Bureau 80) handled the prosecution of this case with Assistant D.A. Katherine Sullivan (Human Trafficking Unit) under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Siobhan Carty (Chief of Trial Bureau 80) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).
D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective Anthony Lamberti of the 30th Precinct Detective Squad and Homicide Detective Heriberto Vasquez.
