WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) announced $100 million in funding to help host cities, including Atlanta, cover transit costs associated with hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026.
This funding was included in the House-passed Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026.
"As Georgia prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this transit funding will help ensure that visitors and fans from around the world experience the warm hospitality the South is known for," said Rep. Carter. "Having successfully hosted international events in the past, Georgia is well-prepared to put these transportation dollars to work to deliver a seamless, world-class event that fans will remember for a lifetime."
"MARTA will play a vital role in how visitors experience Atlanta and move around the metro region during the FIFA World Cup," said MARTA Interim General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt. "We appreciate that the Georgia Federal Delegation understands the importance of public transit to the success of the games and the efforts of Congressman Carter to secure these necessary funds."
