Reed Statement on Deadly Shooting in Pawtucket

CRANSTON, RI - Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed released the following statement on the shooting at a high school hockey game at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket:

"This is a horrific tragedy. Children and families should be safe at a youth sporting event, not subject to gun violence. Our hearts grieve for the victims, their families, and all impacted by this senseless shooting.

"We are grateful for the swift response of law enforcement and emergency responders who rushed to assist, as well as the good Samaritan who confronted and tried to disarm the shooter.

"It appears this was a targeted incident, the suspect is dead, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. But there are a lot of unanswered questions. I will continue to closely monitor the situation and ensure the federal government provides any assistance that may be necessary."
