Are Saying: Election Security Comes Before August Recess

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) is urging the Senate to cancel its August recess and remain in session until Congress passes the SAVE America Act. Senator Banks was among the first Republican Senators to support President Trump's call for lawmakers to stay in Washington until the election integrity legislation is passed.

The SAVE America Act would strengthen election integrity by requiring proof of U.S citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, helping ensure that only American citizens cast ballots. Senator Banks has made clear he is willing to forgo the Senate's scheduled August recess to get the bill passed, arguing that securing the integrity of U.S. elections is fundamental and should take priority over lawmakers' summer break.

Here's what they are saying:

Newsmax: "Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., echoed that message, saying he has heard widespread support for the bill from constituents. 'We don't need a recess. Let's pass the SAVE America Act,' Banks said during a weekend TV interview. 'It's more important than taking a break, taking a recess.'"

The Daily Signal: "As of Monday morning, Sens. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), John Kennedy (R-La.), and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) have come out in favor of passing the legislation before recess."

The Hill: "Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), another Trump ally, said he is ready to cancel the five-week recess to debate the SAVE America Act, which has already failed several times on the Senate Floor."

Axios: "Seven senators are now calling to delay the August recess until SAVE is passed: Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), and Darlene Graham (R-S.C.)."

The Daily Caller: "Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee became the first senator to demand the recess be canceled, stating Sunday that he would object to the recess to see the election integrity bill passed. Republican Sens. Jim Banks of Indiana, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Ashley Moody and Rick Scott of Florida also called on the recess to be canceled."

Punchbowl: "Trump's statement bolstered the position of Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who threatened to force a vote to block the Senate from leaving for recess. Sens. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), and Darlene Graham (R-S.C.)."

Washington Examiner: "Led by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL), Tommy Tubberville (R-AL), Jim Banks (R-IN), Ashley Moody (R-FL), Marsha Balckburn (R-TN), Roger Mashall (R-KS), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) have all called to cancel recess."

Newsweek: "Meanwhile, Banks told Fox News' Big Weekend Show on Sunday: 'We don't need a recess. Let's pass the SAVE America Act. It's more important than taking a break.'"

Daily Signal: "The conference sent the internal communications after Lee, and conservative senators such as Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Jim Banks R-Ind., Ashley Moody R-Fla., John Kennedy, R-La., and Darlene Graham, R-S.C., demanded that Senate Majority Leader John Thune cancel the scheduled August recess and instead abolish the filibuster and pass the voter integrity legislation."

The Hill: "Republican Sens. Rick Scott (Fla.), Ashley Moody (Fla.) and Jim Banks (Ind.) also called on GOP leaders to keep the Senate in session through Labor Day of necessary to hold additional debate and vote on the SAVE America Act."

Newsmax: "Lee has drawn support from fellow Republicans, including Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Ashley Moody, R-Fla., and Jim Banks, R-Ind., all of whom say Congress should remain in session until the election integrity measure reaches the Senate floor."

PJ Media:"Mike Lee of Utah became the first Senator to answer a plea from Scott Pressler to request a roll call vote and force senators to go on the record about the SAVE America Act before the recess, as Article 1 of the Constitution authorizes. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) quickly joined Lee, followed by Sens. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Ashley Moody (R-Fla)."

Here's what they are saying on X:

Donald Trump Jr.: "We need more people in the Senate like @SenatorBanks who are actually willing to FIGHT to pass the SAVE America Act!!!"

Mike Lee:"Bravo @SenatorBanks. Thanks for standing up for the American people."

Eric Daughtery: "BREAKING: Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN.) just became the THIRD SENATOR to OPPOSE August recess until the SAVE America Act passes."

Benny Johnson: "Jim Banks is not the THIRD Senator to Oppose August Recess Until the SAVE America Act Passes. 'We don't need a recess. Let's pass the SAVE America Act. It's more important than taking a break, taking a recess! Every Republican Senator should join him."

Gunter Eagleman: "SENATOR JIM BANKS JUST SAID WHAT EVERYONE IS THINKING: 'We don't need a recess, let's pass the SAVE America Act.' Proof of Citizenship. Voter ID. American elections for American Citizens only."

Scott Pressler: "OH MY GOSH! Senator Jim Banks said, 'We don't need a recess - let's pass the SAVE America Act. It's more important than taking a break. I've heard from people everywhere I go - from the diner this morning to the grocery store: pass the SAVE America Act."

Libs of TikTok: "Multiple Senators are now calling to cancel August recess until the SAVE America Act passes; Sen. Jim Banks, Sen. Rick Scott, Sen. Mike Lee. The Senate is about to go on vacation for a month… and we STILL DON'T HAVE SECURE ELECTIONS."

Ashley Hayek: "@SenatorBanks is absolutely correct. The Senate shouldn't get a month off while the American people see new headlines every day about problems with our voter rolls. Suspend August recess until our military is funded and our elections are secure."

The Hill: Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), another Trump ally, said he's ready to cancel the five-week recess to debate the SAVE America Act. 'I'm all for it. We don't need a recess. Let's pass the SAVE America Act. It's more important than taking a break.'"

Jim Pfaff:"The trend is growing. My friend Jim Banks is a hero standing for this with Mike Lee. Let's keep this going."

Townhall.com: "Donald Trump is joining calls for a handful of Republican Senators… Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT), Jim Banks (R-IN), Rick Scott (R-FL) and Ashley Moody (R-FL) have said that they will not support going to a recess…[to pass the] SAVE America Act."

The Blaze:"GOP Senator Jim Banks: I'm frustrated too. The Senate should abandon the so-called traditions, nuke the filibuster, and do WHATEVER it takes to pass the SAVE America Act."

NewsForce:"BREAKING: Senate Republicans are pushing to cancel the August recess to force a vote on the SAVE America Act. With 35 Senate seats on the ballot this fall, the demand puts lawmakers in a tough spot-stay in Washington and fight for the citizenship-proof voting bill or head home to campaign and risk looking soft on election integrity."

Gunter Eagleman: "Thanks, Jim! Let's get the SAVE America Act across the finish line."
