DPM Ibrahimović, NATO’s Rutte: Montenegro remains credible ally, pillar of stability in Western Balkans

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met in Podgorica earlier today with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Ibrahimović emphasised that the visit of the head of the Alliance represents a strong confirmation of Montenegro's credibility as a member state and that the alliance within NATO remains its alliance within NATO.

Secretary General Rutte stated that Montenegro is a security-stable country, which is of key importance for the Alliance. He added that, in a time of intense geopolitical changes and global challenges, it is necessary to remain united and coordinated in order to adequately respond to all potential threats to collective security.

Regarding the aggression against Ukraine, the two officials reiterated full support for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace.

The meeting concluded that Montenegro remains strongly committed to the goals of the Alliance, with the ambition to become the next member of the European Union by 2028 through continued reform progress and regional leadership.

The two officials also discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO ministerial meeting in Sweden, assessing it as an important opportunity for further strengthening unity and transatlantic ties.
