New Tierra Contenta Trail Creates a Safer Route to School

A new trail connection is making it safer and easier for students, families, and residents to walk and bike in Tierra Contenta.

The City of Santa Fe will celebrate the grand opening of the Tierra Contenta Trail Extension on Thursday, August 27, at 12:30 p.m.

The new 2,045-foot trail extends from Buffalo Grass Road to South Meadows, connecting the Tierra Contenta neighborhood with Sweeney Elementary School and Ortiz Middle School. The project supports the goals of the Safe Routes to School program by providing students and families with a safe, accessible alternative to driving.

Lunch will be provided, and giveaways will be available for attendees. The celebration coincides with the New Mexico Safe Routes to School Summit, with summit participants expected to visit the trail at approximately 1 p.m. A brief presentation and question-and-answer session will follow.

More than a decade in the making, the project represents continued investment in safer, more connected infrastructure for people walking and bicycling throughout Santa Fe.
