San Antonio - September 19, 2025 - The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce that it has been recognized as one of the best universities to work for in the nation according to a new survey by the "Great Colleges to Work For" program. This marks the 17th consecutive year that UIW has made the national list. The results of the "Great Colleges to Work For" survey are collected by the independent company Modern Think and released today in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
"What sets the University of the Incarnate Word apart as a great place to work is our community's shared commitment to providing education that transforms," says Dr. Thomas M. Evans, UIW president. "With our Mission at the heart of all we do, our exceptional faculty and dedicated staff collaborate to cultivate an environment where students flourish and are empowered to make a meaningful impact on the world."
UIW was recognized in four categories by the survey this year including Mission and Pride, Shared Governance, Faculty Experience, and Inclusion, Belonging and Community.
According to the organization, the "Great Colleges to Work For" program was designed to recognize colleges that have been successful in creating great workplaces and to further research and understand the factors, dynamics and influences that have the most impact on organizational culture in higher education. This year marked the 18th anniversary of the program, which included 199 colleges from across the country.
"Resilient, courageous and committed - these are the words that come to mind as I reflect on the institutions recognized in this year's program," says Richard K. Boyer, chief culture strategist at Modern Think. "Their leaders inspire others and foster strong communities. They understand that student success is deeply tied to the success of faculty and staff - and their commitment to both never wavers, in good times or in times of challenge. From faculty and staff to administrators and facilities teams, everyone plays a vital role in building workplaces where people feel supported and valued."
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback. The "Great Colleges to Work For" program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.
