These closures continue the ongoing I-285 Westside Rebuild concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project currently ongoing along the westside of the I-285 corridor from State Route (SR) 14/South Fulton Parkway in College Park to Collier Road.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, these are the lane closures scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday, August 21 through 5 a.m. on Monday, August 24:
-
I-285 northbound:
-
Two left lanes closed between SR 166/Langford Parkway (exit 5) and SR 139/ Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (exit 9)

-
The entrance ramp to I-285 southbound from Cascade Road will be closed. Onsite signage will direct drivers on Cascade eastbound approaching I-285 southbound will be directed to the detour route: access the I-285 northbound entrance ramp to exit at SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr Drive, and turn around to return to I-285 southbound.
NOTE REGARDING PLANNED I-285 FULL CLOSURE 8/28-31: Weather permitting, GDOT contractors plan a full closure of the I-285 northbound and southbound lanes between Cascade Road (exit 7) and SR 166/Langford Parkway (exit 5) beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 28 until 5 a.m. on Monday, August 31. No traffic will be allowed on I-285 between these locations; all traffic will be detoured around the closure.
NOTE: In addition to the dates above, the contractor has provided a tentative schedule for upcoming September full closures, including the weekends of September 11-14 and September 25-27. As always, this schedule is dependent on weather and onsite roadway conditions, and weekend full closures may be postponed when efficient operations and/or safety are not optimum.
Crews will be milling/grinding the roadway concrete in preparation to repair or replace the concrete slabs through the project area. Lane closures are necessary to provide sufficient space for crews to work safely and to protect motorists while large equipment is in operation. Motorists are urged to pay attention to shifting and changing travel infrastructure along the corridor. Roadside message boards and signage will alert drivers in advance of lane shifts and closures.
Motorists who use this segment of I-285 should make plans now to allow significant additional travel time during these closures, or to plan alternate routes in advance. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. GDOT strongly urges motorists to rely on Georgia 511 as the primary source for real-time traffic conditions and lane closure details. Motorists may also use their preferred navigation or wayfinding apps; however, Georgia 511 provides the most up-to-date, Georgia-specific information to help drivers navigate around the closures as efficiently as possible.
