Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement after voting no on Trump and Republicans' Continuing Resolution that failed to address the health care crisis they created:
"After stealing over $1 trillion from our health care system in their Big, Ugly, Law, this continuing resolution is another betrayal from Donald Trump and Republicans that hurts working families.
The Republican shutdown needlessly offered a series of false choices. Republicans chose a shutdown instead of addressing the health care crisis they created. They pitted hungry families needing food against those facing skyrocketing premiums and held workers' paychecks hostage to avoid bipartisan negotiation.
With this dastardly deal, Trump and Congressional Republicans are shirking responsibility and forcing parents to decide between treating an illness and paying for rent, a young person between food and insurance, and a retiree between heat and medication.
This is not a deal Rhode Islanders can afford. It will cause irreparable harm to our health care - for all of us. I'm going to keep calling out the cruelty, fighting to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and addressing Trump's affordability crisis because we cannot back down in the face of Americans being left sicker and poorer."
