Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:
"Acknowledging the American people's growing distrust in our public officials, I believe it is more important than ever to be transparent and open with those who have entrusted me to represent them in Congress. That's why I am sharing that I will be taking a several-week-long planned leave over the August recess to recover from a time-sensitive and medically required surgical procedure.
As I begin my leave this week, I recognize the privilege I have to receive comprehensive healthcare and the ability to take time off to recover. Today, many working families struggle to afford insurance while balancing multiple jobs. Thousands of women - especially women of color - are being denied reproductive care, whether it is because they live in restrictive states or because they are in inhumane ICE detention. Too many of our neighbors are delaying life-saving care because they cannot afford to lose wages. That's why I am clear about my responsibility to continue fighting for free, comprehensive healthcare, living wages, and workers' rights for ALL.
While I will be on medical leave, my offices will remain open and ready to continue our work to hold ICE accountable, dismantle DHS, advance our legislative priorities, deliver resources back to our communities, and help you navigate your case with federal agencies. Please don't hesitate to reach out - my team of dedicated public servants is here to serve you."
