Berg Tool, based in Chesterfield, Michigan, has established itself as a leader in full turn-key fabrication and machining. Originally rooted in oil and gas manufacturing, the company has since evolved into a versatile fabrication and manufacturing facility. Today, Berg Tool serves as a trusted Tier 2 supplier to the automotive industry and is steadily expanding into new sectors.
With the guidance and support of the Macomb County Economic Development team, Berg Tool has successfully broadened its reach into aerospace manufacturing. The company's recent achievement of AS9100D certification reflects its commitment to quality, precision, and compliance with the strictest industry standards.
During a recent visit, I had the opportunity to sit down with Andrew Kavc, President and Operations Manager, to learn more about Berg Tool's operations and growth strategy. Andrew shared insights into how the company continues to improve its processes, invest in advanced capabilities, and position itself for long-term success in competitive manufacturing markets. That commitment has not gone unnoticed-Berg Tool was recently invited to participate in an exclusive Roundtable Discussion with Congressman John James with Boeing to discuss current supply chain challenges and the vital role that small, specialized manufacturers can play in strengthening large-scale U.S. projects.
Our conversation also touched on workforce challenges facing the industry. As Andrew noted, for every five skilled employees who retire, only two are entering the workforce to replace them, often requiring significant on-the-job training. To help close that gap, Berg Tool is working to attract more youth into manufacturing and skilled trades. The company participates in Manufacturing Day, a national event that introduces high school students to careers in manufacturing and the trades, showing young people the opportunities available outside of traditional four-year college paths. Just as important, Berg Tool is focused on building a workplace culture that values its people-ensuring fair pay while also fostering an environment where employees feel supported and appreciated.
From its foundation in oil and gas to its current expansion into aerospace, Berg Tool exemplifies the adaptability and innovation that define Macomb County's manufacturing sector. By investing in both advanced capabilities and its workforce, the company is positioning itself not just to compete, but to lead.
