Linn County Board of Supervisors Awards $100,000 to Local Nonprofits

The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded $100,000 to 17 local organizations through the Linn County Economic & Community Development Fund. This is an annual competitive grant program designed to foster and support economic growth and enhance quality of life in Linn County. Funding requests annually exceed the amount of funding available. This year's funding requests totaled almost $600,000. The Board's decision to partially fund or decline an application is based on the need to prioritize limited funding.

The following organizations are this year's grant recipients:

  • African American Museum of Iowa (AAMI), Teaching Iowa's Cultural Heritage with AAMI: $5,000
  • Boys & Girls Club, Building Capacity to Fund Great Futures: $5,000
  • Camp Wapsie, Pool Slide and Diving Board Replacement: $5,000
  • Cedar Amateur Astronomers, Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center Public Health and Safety Upgrades: $7,000
  • Eastern Iowa Health Center, Seeing into the Future - Tele-Optometry for All: $5,000
  • Ely Fire Department, LUCAS Chest Compression Device: $16,000
  • Hawkeye Downs, Free Community Holiday Event Series - Santa Village: $5,000
  • Hiawatha Economic Development Corporation (HEDCO), Customer Relationship Management System: $5,000
  • Linn County 3rd Fire District, Replacement of Aging Equipment: $6,000
  • Marion Public Library, Technology for Marion Public Library BookMobile: $4,000
  • Matthew 25, Cultivate Hope Corner Store: $8,000
  • National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, Supporting the Community Through Cultural Educational Programming: $3,500
  • NewBo City Market, The Hatchery for Entrepreneurship Stabilization Through Construction: $2,500
  • Pleasant Grove Heritage Park, Phase 1 Amenities for Pleasant Grove Heritage Park in Lisbon: $7,000
  • Save CR Heritage, Westside Renewal Capital Campaign: $5,500
  • Tanager Place, LGBTQ+ Youth Center at Tanager Place: $5,500
  • Together We Achieve, Choice Food Pantry and Meals To-Go Program Expansion: $5,000
