The City of Iowa City is opening its resident survey to everyone in order to gather input on government services and measure the quality of life in the community.
Last month, surveys were sent to a select number of households to create statistically valid survey results. Households that received mailed invitations should share their input using the instructions and link in the mailed materials. Now, the survey is available to all other Iowa City residents online at polco.us/IowaCityOpen.
An option at the top of the survey allows residents to take the survey in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Chinese. The survey will be available until Nov. 11, 2026.

The City is conducting this survey to help guide decision-making and help prioritize actions in its strategic plan. The survey allows more people to participate in shaping that plan and the future of Iowa City.
Iowa City's 2026 community survey was developed by the National Research Center at Polco. The survey captures opinions on the economy, mobility, community design, utilities, safety, natural environment, inclusivity, engagement, and other elements of Iowa City's overall livability. The results will show Iowa City's strengths, areas of improvement, and what matters most to residents. The City will also be able to see how its performance compares to other communities across the country.
All residents aged 18 and older are asked to visit polco.us/IowaCityOpen and complete the survey. The City needs input from the entire community to make data-driven decisions that will benefit all Iowa City residents. Responses are anonymous, and personal information is securely stored on Polco.
