Cambridge Drought Status Downgraded to Level 1 - Mild Drought

Cambridge and the Northeast Region of the Commonwealth have recently been downgraded from a Level 2- Significant Drought to a Level 1 - Mild Drought .

March precipitation was extremely helpful in alleviating long-term dry conditions.

While local water supplies are currently stable, mild drought conditions continue to persist. With the growing season and higher water demand season approaching, it remains important to be very conservative and save water whenever possible.

Below are recommendations for individuals living and working within a Level 1 - Mild Drought area, including those utilizing a private well.

• Minimize overall water use; • All non-essential outdoor water uses are restricted to no more than one day per week before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. The watering of ornamentals and flower gardens with drip irrigation, hand-held hose or watering cans is permitted; • Fix indoor leaks, such as from toilets, faucets, and showers, which result in more than 60 percent of indoor use; • For larger buildings and businesses, conduct water audits to identify areas of leaks and potential water conservation opportunities; • Minimize lawn sizes; and, • Harvest rainwater for outdoor watering.
