Support for Ukraine and Cooperation on Strengthening the Ukrainian Combat Aviation Fleet with Swedish Gripen Aircraft: Volodymyr Zelenskyy Held a Meeting with the King of Sweden

In Lviv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, who visited Ukraine for the second time since the restoration of our independence and for the first time since the beginning of Russian aggression. His Majesty was accompanied by a government delegation.

The Head of State thanked His Majesty for his visit to Ukraine and for his support for our people from the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

"Sweden is indeed among the top five largest donors in terms of support for our Armed Forces and our population. And only for this year, for 2026, Sweden has approved support of €4 billion. This is very significant support for us, for our defense, and for the resilience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the President noted.

The King of Sweden emphasized that Ukraine is a country of major importance for Europe, and that public support for Ukrainians within Swedish society is very strong.

The President separately highlighted discussions with Sweden on strengthening Ukraine's future Air Force, including Gripen.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is interested in a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership that will strengthen the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and Sweden. Our country is ready to share its experience and technologies with Sweden and to expand cooperation in the defense industry. The President also spoke about relevant agreements with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region, as well as European countries - Germany, Norway, Italy, and the Netherlands.

The parties also discussed continued support in the humanitarian sphere. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for Her Majesty Queen Silvia's support for humanitarian programs through the Childhood Foundation, including the Bring Kids Back UA initiative and the program of First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska on School Nutrition Reform.

"Queen Silvia supports this effort; Her Majesty is in constant contact with the First Lady of Ukraine. And we truly have a very special relationship with Sweden," the President added.

Energy assistance was also discussed. In terms of financial contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, Sweden ranks second in Europe. The President noted that our country is already preparing for the next winter and would be grateful for continued support from Sweden.
