Synopsis:

In 1961, at the height of the Cold War, UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld faces a near-impossible mission to secure peace in the chaotic Congo. As industry-backed enemies plot against him, the unexpected arrival of an old friend forces Hammarskjöld to confront his own loneliness and the personal life he sacrificed for duty. Torn between his commitment to global peace and a longing for freedom, he embarks on a final, desperate flight in September 1961-a journey that would become the most dangerous of his career.

In his pursuit of peace, Hammarskjöld starts a war, and he soon realizes that nobody really wants peace. He is isolated, lonely and excluded both politically and in his private life. Meanwhile in the darkness, his enemies gather to plot against him. He is forced to look inward and question the choices he has made and the things he must do.
