Bartow, Fla. (Aug. 18, 2026) - The Polk County Board of County Commissioners confirmed the appointment of Jerry Rodriguez as the new Polk County Building Division Director on Tuesday, Aug. 18. He will begin serving in the role on Monday, Aug. 24.
As the Building Division Director, Rodriguez will oversee a budget of approximately $12.6 million, 76 employees and the Building Division's daily operations.
"I'm honored and grateful for the opportunity to begin this new chapter serving as the Polk County Building Division Director," said Rodriguez. "I look forward to working with Building Division staff to ensure we deliver the highest level of service to Polk County residents, our partnering divisions, sister agencies and the business community. I'm excited to be able to return to work where my professional career began and I'm ready to get to work."
Rodriguez brings experience in land development, municipal planning, zoning, code compliance, entitlement review and forward planning across the public and private sectors, including serving as a planner with the Polk County Board of County Commissioners from 1998 to 2005. He most recently served as the Land Development Project Manager Lead I and Forward Planning Manager with D.R. Horton.
Rodriguez earned a bachelor's degree in geography from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in business administration from Florida Southern College.
Rodriguez will earn $146,411.20 annually.
