F&G seeks information regarding cow elk shot and wasted in Unit 11A

Idaho Fish and Game conservation officers are seeking information about a cow elk that was shot and left to waste on private property in Clearwater County, unit 11A.

Officers located the shot elk in a farm field located off Albers Road and Russell Ridge Road. No meat was taken from the elk, and officers believe it was shot sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4.

Based on the circumstances and evidence at the scene, this doesn't appear to be a case of wounding loss. The elk was killed in an area that is visible from the road, and without permission from the landowner. The cow elk was shot once in the rear quarter and died from the injuries leaving its young calf elk to fend for itself.

Anyone who was in this area between Aug. 3 and 4 or who might have seen or heard something is encouraged to pass along their information to Sr. Conservation Officer Morgan Deards 208-914-8007 or call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999.

Citizens Against Poaching is a nonprofit organization established in 1981 in cooperation with Idaho Fish and Game, which may offer money rewards for reporting wildlife crimes to Fish and Game Officers. Callers may remain anonymous.
