Connect to community service opportunities with WAVES

The Community Service Center, located in Viking Union 424, would like to remind campus about our volunteer platform, the Western Action for Volunteer Engagement and Service, or WAVES. If you have ever visited the Volunteer Center of Whatcom County or the Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program website, WAVES will look familiar as it uses the same platform called Galaxy Digital to highlight needs and events across the county. WAVES is specific to Western and requires a WWU login but pulls in all of those amazing opportunities across the county, in addition to needs on campus.

This year, we hope to partner with departments and faculty across campus! We are especially interested in helping you design community-engaged learning initiatives (often called service learning) in order to integrate volunteerism into the classroom.

Additionally, on October 28, noon - 3 p.m. in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, we will host the fall Volunteer Fair. This is not only an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to come learn about local organizations, but we would also like to offer departments the chance to table if you are seeking volunteers and interns for upcoming projects and events!
