We are excited to announce that Kinross Nevada's Emergency Response Teams (ERT) took home top scores at the 38th Annual Mine Safety Olympiad this summer.
The Olympiad took place over two-days with teams participating in a series of technical and physical challenges to test their skills and demonstrate their teamwork and commitment to mine safety. This year, nine teams participated in the event, first showcasing their medical, hazmat, fire, triage, confined space and ropes training. All challenges were then combined into one real-life scenario that tested the teams' mine rescue skills.
Congratulations Kinross Round Mountain who earned the title of 'Grand Champion' at the Olympiad as well as first place in Field Day, Overall Skills, Ropes Station and Confined Spaces. Kinross Bald Mountain was also the recipient of second place in the Field Day scenario.
In addition to the group awards, Kurt Albo, Heavy Equipment Operator, Round Mountain, was the recipient of an individual safety award - the Kerry Tucket Award for Outstanding Achievement in Safety and Service.
"Kinross Nevada's results at the 2025 Mine Safety Olympiad is a reflection of our team's dedication, preparation and commitment to emergency response," said Deanna Hall, Health and Safety Manager, Kinross Nevada. "A huge thank you to all participants and our ERT coordinators for their leadership and support. We are proud of this team who once again delivered results that reflect Kinross' strong culture and commitment to safety."
