Zimmerman Issues Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Regarding Men Participating in Women’s Sports

June 30, 2026

HARRISBURG - State Rep. Dave Zimmerman (R-Lancaster/Berks) issued the following statement in reaction to Tuesday's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding participation in women's sports by biological men:

"I applaud today's U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold bans on transgender athletes participating in women's and girls' sports in West Virginia and Idaho, saying the laws don't violate the 14th Amendment or Title IX.

"House Democrats argue that legislative attempts to advance bills dealing with preventing such participation address issues that virtually do not exist in Pennsylvania and distract from more pressing economic concerns, while maintaining that the legislation unfairly targets LGBTQIA+ youth.

"The Court is upholding states' rights and my colleagues in the Pennsylvania House Republican caucus and I will continue our attempts to protect our female athletes and bring these bills to the House chamber for a vote.

"At the same time, this can be a local government issue. I've heard many constituents demand that their local school board be more active and engaged on certain topics. A perfect example is cell phones, something school districts have the power to ban in the classroom if they choose.

"While House Democrats block attempts to pass appropriate legislation at the state level, individual school districts can enact policies that would address the issue of biological men participating in women's sports.

"This would be a great opportunity for a school board to make its own decision instead of waiting on someone else to mandate it for them."
