The Port of San Diego has received several awards recognizing excellence in digital communications, social media, and employee engagement from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) and the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). The honors highlight the Port's commitment to connecting people with its waterfront, programs, and mission through creative and effective storytelling.
"Our communications, content, and marketing teams spotlight the human-focused stories that bring the Port of San Diego's values closer to our communities and employees," said Job Nelson, Port of San Diego Chief Strategy & Communications Officer. "In collaboration with other departments within the Port and with our various external stakeholders and partners, we uplift the people who work at and enjoy our waterfront."
CAPIO honored the Port with an award for its "People at the Park" video series. The campaign showcased the diverse communities who live, work, and play along San Diego Bay, featuring stories ranging from children enjoying Dunes Park in Imperial Beach to a birdwatcher at Spanish Landing in San Diego. The Port joined public agencies and organizations recognized across 56 award categories this year.
The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals recognized the Port with a platinum MarCom Award for "A Day at the Park: A Port Experience Series." To promote the three community events, the Port used local influencer partnerships, social media content, press outreach, and digital marketing campaigns. Together, the campaigns generated 4.7 million impressions and attracted approximately 7,700 attendees to the events.
MarCom also awarded an honorable mention to the Port's internal employee newsletter, "The Navigator." Distributed weekly to nearly 600 employees, the newsletter features messages from President and CEO Scott Chadwick, updates on organization-wide initiatives and events, employee recognitions, and other workforce news designed to strengthen employee engagement and communication.
These awards reflect the Port's ongoing efforts to share meaningful stories, engage diverse audiences, and strengthen connections between the waterfront and the communities it serves.
