Malta Freeport Terminals welcomed the CMA CGM Grand Palais on her maiden voyage, marking the arrival of the largest LNG-powered container vessel ever to call at the Terminal. With an overall length of 400 metres and a capacity exceeding 23,000 TEUs, the vessel's call further highlights the Freeport's capability to safely and efficiently accommodate ultra-large container ships of this scale.
Our CEO, Alex Montebello, and Felipe Barbosa, Execution Manager, presented a commemorative plaque to the vessel's Captain.
The CMA CGM Grand Palais is currently the world's largest container vessel powered by LNG, reflecting the continued transition of the maritime industry towards lower-emission operations.
The Freeport today handles a number of LNG-powered vessels on a regular weekly basis, contributing to tangible reductions in CO₂ emissions and supporting cleaner maritime transport.
CMA CGM has played a pioneering role in LNG-fuelled shipping, with the CMA CGM Jacques Saadé - the world's first 23,000 TEU LNG-powered containership - having also made her maiden call at Malta Freeport in 2020.
Operating on the MEX 1 service, CMA CGM Grand Palais berthed at Terminal One North Quay, where four megamax quayside cranes were deployed to handle 5,123 containers ( 9,250 TEUs).
A big well done to our hardworking and dedicated team for their professionalism and efficiency.
