PFG with France Meets with French Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with France, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, and members of the group met with the Ambassador of France to the Republic of Serbia, Florence Ferrari, in the National Assembly House.

Jadranka Jovanovic emphasised the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and the exceptionally well-developed bilateral cooperation, which is recording constant progress thanks to the excellent relations between the presidents of the two countries, Aleksandar Vucic and Emmanuel Macron.

She recalled the numerous highest state level visits and meetings, as well as the bilateral agreements that will further deepen and strengthen cooperation between our countries in the areas of agriculture, defence, tourism, mining and other sectors.

She particularly emphasised the importance of the agreements in the field of culture, expressing hope that they will help strengthen ties between French and Serbian cultural institutions, which could also result in Serbia being represented at the Louvre Museum.

The PFG Head dedicated a significant part of the conversation to topics of essential importance for Serbia, primarily our country's European path, and thanked France for the continued support it provides to Serbia in the European integration process.

She also drew attention to the extremely difficult situation the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija are face with on a daily basis, emphasising that Serbia is strongly committed to the principled defence of international law and the normalisation of relations, but currently finds no adequate interlocutor in Pristina for this.

Ambassador Ferrari stressed that interparliamentary cooperation is essential for the relations between the two countries, which are exceptional and rest on the strength of the two peoples' shared memory of the friendly support they have provided to each other throughout history and in the most difficult times.

She placed special emphasis on the upward trajectory of relations between the two countries after the visit of the French President to Serbia in 2019, which had a significant impact on Serbia's European integration process.

She stressed that Serbia will continue to have France's support in the future in this process, emphasising the importance of Serbia's accession to the community of European nations.

The officials also discussed the upcoming commemoration of 110 years of Allied assistance to the Serbian Army during World War I, successful economic cooperation, the presence of French companies in Serbia through investments, as well as France's upcoming participation in Expo 2027.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Jovan Palalic, Prim. Dr Nada Macura, Marko Milosevic, Goran Rakic and Svetlana Milijic, who raised several topics related to furthering cooperation and connecting the two peoples.
