The study abroad experience can be a chance to learn and travel and explore before starting a career. Or, it can be the start of your career.
According to its website, Inspiratia - located at 3 London Bridge Street in London - turns complex energy markets into clear, actionable intelligence. The company of a couple dozen is "pushing the boundaries of analytics in the global infrastructure and renewable sectors." This spring, they did it with a little help from actuarial science major Julia Kunz '27.
"I've always wanted to study abroad in London, and I always knew that I wanted to do an internship abroad. I wanted to know what it was like to work in a different country and gain that experience."

Siena's Study Abroad office connected Kunz with the CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad Program. The 12-week course features three components: a part-time internship with an international organization, an internship seminar, and two elective courses (one at a time over six weeks). Kunz enjoyed the classes, but the payoff was the job. For three months, Kunz was just another professional Londoner... and that's exactly the experience she wanted.
"I lived in London Zone 2. I took the Underground to get around. There was a station right by my apartment, so I bummed around on the Tube a lot. It was honestly really weird in the best way. I wasn't a tourist. I wasn't a student. I really felt like someone working. I'd go to the office and then hang out with my co-workers."
While on the clock, Kunz made sure entries in the company's database were up to date and correct. She wrote an article for the company website, and she was able to learn a lot just by sitting in meetings and connecting with colleagues.

The 12-weeks abroad wasn't all work and no play. Kunz traveled to Dublin and Paris and throughout England. She saw a lot, but not everything. She's eager to go back... maybe she'll pursue an MBA in London? And if so, maybe she can swing by 3 London Bridge Street to see the gang? The hardest part about coming home was saying goodbye.
"I made friends in class who live in the States, so it's easier to stay in touch with them. But I don't know if I'll ever see my co-workers again."
If not, they gave her a final day on the job she'll always remember.
"It was so sweet. They surprised me with a donut party!"
