Republican Gov. Mike DeWine Calls Ramaswamy Ad "Deeply, Deeply Troubling," Urges Him to Take It Down
Speaking to press today, Republican Gov. Mike DeWine joined the bipartisan chorus denouncing Vivek Ramaswamy's ad featuring Dr. Amy Acton's estranged and abusive birth mother, asking him to take it off the air after Ramaswamy put $4 million behind it statewide.
"The ad, on its face is, deeply, deeply troubling. But when you know the rest of the story, when you know the backstory, when you know that the husband of the mom was indicted by a grand jury after hearing testimony, and then he took off along with the mother. When you know that, it just… makes it more serious. It makes it just more wrong. So it's wrong to run this… I would just urge the Ramaswamy campaign to take this down."
Gov. DeWine is the latest Republican to join the backlash, with other Republicans and conservatives calling it "unbelievably disgusting," the "grossest thing I can think of," and "dastardly."
"Child abuse and sexual assault should never be weaponized to score partisan points. Governor DeWine is right -Vivek Ramaswamy's ad is beyond troubling, and he should take it down immediately and apologize to survivors everywhere and all those hurt by this reprehensible attack," said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy.
