The N.C. Department of Information Technology's Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity, in partnership with the Kramden Institute and the NC TECH Association, is celebrating the success of Digital Drive 2025, an initiative that brought together individuals, businesses, organizations and state government leaders to donate used computers for refurbishment and reuse.

The one-day event, held at NC TECH Association in Raleigh, collected 155 computers, cell phones and other surplus technology that Kramden Institute will securely wipe, refurbish if usable, and distribute to North Carolina residents who currently lack a home computer.

With more than 300,000 North Carolinians still without a device at home, this event marked a significant step forward in the state's ongoing efforts to close the digital divide and expand opportunity through technology access.

"Every computer collected represents a new door opened - a student who can complete assignments, a job seeker who can apply online, or a family who can access telehealth and government services," said NCDIT Deputy Secretary for Broadband and Digital Opportunity Annette Taylor. "Thank you to Senator Jay Chaudhuri and Representative Zack Hawkins for supporting this initiative that highlighted what's possible when communities and corporations come together to make a real impact."

The Kramden Institute will refurbish all donated computers and ensure that each device is distributed to households across the state in need.

"Thanks to the generosity of donors, we're able to transform yesterday's tech into tomorrow's opportunity," said Kramden Institute Executive Director Cyndy Yu-Robinson. "Digital Drive 2025 demonstrated that North Carolina is a state that looks out for its neighbors."

"We are proud to see the tech community leading by example," said NC TECH President and CEO Brooks Raiford. "Together, we're building a more connected and resilient North Carolina that can support economic development."
