On the life-saving programs' 61st anniversary, Congressman Pat Ryan is raising the alarm on this Administration's latest attempt to raise costs on Hudson Valley seniors

KINGSTON, NY - Today, on Medicare and Medicaid's 61st anniversary, Congressman Pat Ryan is raising the alarm on the Trump Administration's latest attempt to raise healthcare costs on Hudson Valley seniors.

The Administration announced on Tuesday that, at the end of 2026, they will eliminate the Medicare Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration Program, a $3.6 billion program which is currently holding down drug plan premiums for millions of seniors nationwide.

"Trump promised to protect Medicare, but instead he's betraying our seniors. His latest decision will actively raise prescription drug costs for thousands of seniors by eliminating a critical program that has helped Medicare beneficiaries afford their prescription drugs. Many of these seniors are living on fixed incomes and feeling the squeeze from massive cost increases across the board. Without Medicare Part D, they don't have the extra money they'll now need to afford their life-saving medicines," said Congressman Pat Ryan. "On the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, we should be committed to strengthening these programs and lowering health care costs for everyone. I'll never stop fighting to lower the cost of prescription drugs and ensure every American can afford the high quality health care they deserve."

This move follows months of direct attacks by the Trump Administration on healthcare access for Hudson Valley families, kids, and seniors. Trump's cuts to Medicaid are kicking 17 million Americans off their health insurance - including up to 240,000 in the Hudson Valley. Republicans' refusal to extend the ACA tax credits are causing insurance premiums to skyrocket - in the Hudson Valley, thousands are starting down the barrel of a 185% price hike - a $1,000/month increase for an average 60-year-old couple on ACA insurance.

Congressman Ryan was an early, strong critic of President Trump domestic spending agenda - calling it a "Big, Ugly Betrayal" of the American people. Trump's agenda rips health care coverage away from more than 17 million Americans, is set to cause a massive hike in insurance premiums for millions, and has already closed, significantly reduced services, or forced mass layoffs at countless hospitals nationwide. 77% of respondents to Ryan's survey on ACA premiums said they'd already received notice their bills would increase.
