The online magazine Sifted has listed the top 100 AI start-ups in Europe. Among them is the JKU spin-off Emmi AI - the best-placed Austrian entry.
The renowned innovation magazine Sifted has published its annual Sifted AI 100 Report, electing the most promising European start-ups that have the potential to reshape the industry using Artificial Intelligence. The report highlights businesses that stand out for their courage, momentum, and originality, not just their funding size.
Only three Austrian start-ups made it into the ranking of 100 companies. The one with the highest ranking originated in Upper Austria: The Johannes Kepler University Linz' spin-off Emmi AI ranks 35 in this European ranking. Emmi AI develops AI-based physics simluation models for industrial applications. The use of Artificial Intelligence shortens the time spend of these complex calculations from several days to mere seconds.
Associate Professor DI Dr. Johannes Brandstetter from the Institute of Machine Learning and founder of Emmi AI is pleased by the company's excellent ranking, adding that, "with Emmi AI we succeeded in getting the most brilliant European minds on board, attract significant key accounts and develop real momentum that is now drawing a lot of attention to Linz. I am incredibly proud of this team and our success. But really, this is just the start. We are expecting significant growth over the next year and are looking forward to pursuing our mission of shaping the future of industrial AI at full steam!"
JKU Rector Univ. Prof. Dr. Stefan Koch is equally pleased. "The excellent ranking of Emmi AI in the Sifted AI Ranking shows that research at the JKU is being recognized internationally. It also confirms that it is indeed possible to combine excellence in research with real-world applications at our university."
Successful JKU spin-offs
The Johannes Kepler University Linz has seen itself, among other things, as a hotbed for entrepreneurial innovation for many years. Numerous successful start-ups in the region are grounded in research results and technologies that were developed at the JKU. The university also has dedicated programs that support researchers and students as they take their ideas from the research phase to market maturity. The LIT Open Innovation Center at the JKU, for example, plays a vital role by providing a space where research, technology, and entrepreneurship can meet. The start-ups that rent space here benefitfrom comprehensive support, including workshops and a strong network. The LIT Open Innovation Center is extremely popular with start-ups and is very well frequented.
"We warmly congratulate Emmi AI on being named on of Europe's most promising start-ups. This recognition clearly underscores the company's great potential. Potential that is grounded in the excellent research pursued at the Johannes Kepler University, demonstrating that science and business can come together to produce innovation. The JKU is always endeavouring to actively foster these types of innovation and promote the foundation of spin-off companies. Because it is precisely in challenging times that one thing becomes clear: only through bold innovation and the consistent promotion of these future technologies can we strengthen our economy in the long term.", JKU Vice-Rector Mag. Christiane Tusek remarks.
