25 Year Remembrance – Station 54

On September 11, the San Rafael Fire Department held its annual Remembrance Ceremony at Station 54, beginning at 6:58 a.m., the time the attacks forever changed our nation.

The ceremony included a traditional American Legion and bagpiper processional, opening remarks and commemorative speeches, and the solemn reading of the names of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Members of the San Rafael Police Department also joined the ceremony and read aloud the names of the 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives that day.

The ceremony concluded with a moment of reflection and remembrance and a recessional march by the American Legion members and bagpipers. It provided an opportunity for members of both departments and the community to pause, remember those who were lost, and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call on September 11, 2001.
