Waterford-area Umpire Detained on Allegations of Child Pornography

DETROIT - Kevin C. Cathcart, 57, of Waterford, appeared in federal court today on a criminal complaint alleging that he possessed and distributed child pornography, the United States Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of Michigan announced.

Cathcart is an umpire in the Waterford area including for little league baseball games organized through the Waterford Coaches Association. He is also involved in youth hockey as a volunteer. At this time, the U.S. Attorney's Office is unaware of allegations of misconduct arising from Cathcart's position as an umpire or in youth hockey.

Cathcart was ordered detained and his preliminary examination is set for October 29.

A complaint is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. It will be the government's burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
