President Gitanas Nausėda and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine signed an agreement on the production of defense materiel for Ukraine in Lithuania.
In implementing the agreement, the two countries committed to strengthening cooperation between their defense industries.
"As we mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine, we once again state clearly that Lithuania has been, is, and will continue to stand with Ukraine. This agreement is not merely an industrial or technological project-it is a demonstration of our political will and strategic partnership. By strengthening our joint defense capabilities, we are reinforcing Ukraine's ability to counter aggression and enhancing the security of Europe as a whole. Lithuania's support for Ukraine is unwavering, focused, consistent, and long-term. It will continue for as long as necessary and by all necessary means," President Gitanas Nausėda underscored.
The agreement provides that most of the defense systems and capabilities manufactured in Lithuania will be primarily intended for the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as for the needs of the Lithuanian armed forces. It also underscores that joint production will contribute directly to Ukraine's ability to counter Russia's aggression.
For its part, Lithuania has committed to creating favorable conditions and promoting the establishment of Ukrainian defense and security companies in Lithuania, including through joint ventures, partnerships, joint production agreements, and other forms of investments.
The agreement notes that cooperation may be partially financed by contributions from Ukrainian entities, but will be implemented primarily using Lithuanian national funding and funding under the SAFE initiative.
The agreement also reaffirms Lithuania's continued support for joint defense industry projects, in line with its long-term commitment to allocate 0.25 percent of GDP annually for assistance to Ukraine.
