The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the replacement and/or overlay of extruded aluminum highway sign panels on existing sign supports and revising the exit numbering system along the entirety of I-91 in various towns from New Haven to the Connecticut state line beginning Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The existing extruded aluminum sign panels have exceeded their useful service life. Replacing these highway signs along I-91 enhances retro-reflectivity and improves visibility and readability for motorists, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions.
In addition, this project will also modernize I-91's exit numbering system from an outdated sequential numbering system to a mileage-based format, to meet federal standards and provide consistency for drivers traveling throughout the region.
The work is being performed by The Quaker Corporation and is scheduled to be completed in September 2028.
