Rebuilding Kane County: Construction season brings another round of major improvements to region

CHICAGO - Rebuild Illinois is continuing to improve mobility, safety and quality of life in Kane County, with the Illinois Department of Transportation delivering multiple major projects this construction season. Made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker's historic capital program, five projects combined represent a total investment of more than $242.5 million, creating and maintaining good-paying jobs throughout the region. ​

"The historic Rebuild Illinois program continues to transform our infrastructure and enhance key economic corridors across the state," said Gov. Pritzker. "Our ambitious capital program is putting Illinoisans to work as we improve regional transportation systems, encourage new economic activity and build a better future for all of Illinois." ​

There are five upcoming major projects in the Kane County area, they are scheduled to be completed between 2027-2030.

"Our infrastructure investments are making roads and intersections safer for Kane County residents, commuters and visitors," said Senate Majority Caucus Whip Cristina Castro (D-Elgin). "The Rebuild Illinois program is guaranteeing our area remains a hub for economic activity and business."

"Rebuild Illinois represents what we can accomplish when Republicans and Democrats come together around a shared priority," said state Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles), minority spokesperson for the Senate Transportation Committee. "It is the largest capital infrastructure program passed on a truly bipartisan basis in Illinois history, creating tens of thousands of good-paying jobs while allowing us to make long-overdue investments in our roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure."

"For decades, we deferred critical infrastructure projects, and this program gives us the opportunity to address that backlog and modernize the infrastructure our families and businesses rely on every day. I commend Secretary Gia Biagi and the entire IDOT team for their continued efforts to keep these projects moving and ensure communities throughout our state see the benefits of this historic investment."

"The investment into Illinois 47 reconstruction will allow the fastest growing region of Illinois to offer a safe, efficient, travel corridor for residents, commerce and visitors," said state Rep. Matt Hanson (D-Batavia). "Thanks to IDOT regional planning and capital funding available through Gov. Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois program, Kane and Kendall County communities will enjoy infrastructure improvements addressing current and future transportation needs."

"The state's Rebuild Illinois investments are essential to addressing Kane County's growing traffic congestion," said Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog. "With a growing population of approximately 526,000 and continued development along the Illinois 47 and U.S. 20 corridors, the $61 million in Rebuild Illinois projects along these key corridors will improve safety, strengthen transportation and support the growth of our communities and developing economy."

Passed in 2019, Rebuild Illinois is investing a total of $33.2 billion over six years into the state's aging transportation system, creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Rebuild Illinois is not only the largest capital program in state history, but also the first that touches all modes of transportation: roads and bridges, transit, waterways, freight and passenger rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. ​ ​ ​

Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide on 24,498 miles of highways, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
