CMPA and IATSE, Local 411 announce first agreement for Set Medics

TORONTO, June 12, 2026 - Today, the Canadian Media Producers Association and IATSE, Local 411 announced the successful conclusion of negotiations on a new voluntary recognition agreement for Set Medics in Ontario. The tentative deal establishes terms, conditions and rates for Set Medics engaged on film, TV and digital media productions in Ontario.

"IATSE Local 411 is proud to now represent Set Medics in Ontario," said David Rumley, the Business Agent for IATSE Local 411. "We believe all crew should have the protections of a Collective Agreement, and Set Medics now have those protections. We look forward to bringing them into the largest entertainment union in the world, the IATSE."

"Ontario's world-class sets attract productions from around the world because they are among the safest and best-equipped in the industry," said Sean Porter, the CMPA's Senior Vice-President of National Industrial Relations and General Counsel. "We're pleased to deepen our partnership with IATSE, Local 411 through a mutually beneficial agreement that recognizes the important role of Set Medics in production, and that supports our collaborative efforts to build a strong and resilient sector."

The new voluntary recognition agreement has been ratified by the IATSE, Local 411 membership and will be presented to the CMPA Board of Directors for ratification in the coming weeks. Once ratified, the voluntary agreement will be available to productions starting on August 1, 2026.
