Adoopt a Hydrant for the 2025/2026 Winter Season

Consider helping the Cambridge Fire Department out this year by "adopting" a hydrant to shovel out during winter weather.

We did not receive much snow during the past two winters, but this winter could be very different.

Immediately following a snow storm, firefighters will be out on the streets clearing the hydrants in their districts, but this takes time. We have approximately 1,900 hydrants in the City of Cambridge. It is a big task that can be completed more quickly with community assistance.

Shovel out a short path and a 3 foot radius area around the hydrant.

If you can do it safely, take a "before and "after" photo and send it to the Fire Department. Get the kids to help too.
