Less Debt, More Clarity, and a Plan for Your Paycheck

AI-native tools and instant answers to their most pressing financial questions are helping Intuit Credit Karma members make it happen

By Gurpreet Singh, Head of Product at Intuit Credit Karma

For years, the promise of AI in personal finance was smarter insights, more personalization, and technology working on your behalf. But it was just a promise.

What people actually got was more visibility into their finances, but that didn't result in clarity on what actions to take. That gap between information and action is where people get stuck. It's where debt compounds, paychecks get spent before bills are covered, and tax refunds disappear just as fast as they arrive.

Intuit Credit Karma is closing that gap.

Built on Intuit's Consumer Platform, our new AI-native tools aren't a roadmap. They're live, rolling out to more customers, and the results already show up in their accounts. Here's what customers can experience today:

  • Save $232 a month on average when they use Debt Assistant to find a better offer¹
  • Get answers to their most pressing financial questions, with 94% rating Credit Karma Intelligence positively.
  • Save interest on debt by putting their tax refund to work.
  • Get a personalized plan for every paycheck, so more money goes toward goals.

As the year-round financial destination within Intuit's Consumer Group, Credit Karma is where members live the other 364 days outside of tax season, growing their credit, eliminating their debt, optimizing their spending and making progress toward their financial goals. That ongoing relationship gives us a more complete view of our members' finances, and we're putting AI to work on their behalf. Across the app, 94% of members who engage with Credit Karma Intelligence rate the experience positively.

We've built a new generation of AI-native tools designed to help members turn insights into action across money moments of truth.

Credit Karma Intelligence

Consumers are already turning to AI for financial guidance, but increasingly, they expect it to

to know their financial situation without having to explain it. Credit Karma's conversational AI experience delivers just that. With a holistic view of members' finances, the entire conversation is grounded in their actual data.

Integrated across the app and rolling out to all members soon, members can ask questions about their finances, from what's affecting their credit score, to what's behind their spending, to what paying off a specific card would do for them. It's a conversational AI agent that uses a member's financial profile to have a genuine multi-turn conversation, adapting results in real time.

Take the personal loan marketplace as one example. Not only do members who take out a personal loan on Credit Karma save an average of 30% on interest compared to going off-platform, but with Credit Karma's AI they will be able to describe what they're looking for and get a response grounded in their actual financial situation. Credit Karma Intelligence will take it from there, surfacing offers, explaining credit impact before presenting options, and answering real financial questions like "How will this affect my credit score?" or "How does using a loan to pay off credit card debt actually work?" Customers will walk away from a single conversation having reviewed their budget, compared loans, prepped their documents, and built a 6-month credit health plan.

Debt Assistant

More than half (57%) of active Credit Karma members carry credit card or personal loan debt. For those carrying a balance, that debt costs roughly $1,400 a year in interest. The biggest obstacle they face isn't motivation, it's not knowing where to start. Our AI-powered Debt Assistant removes that friction by providing a debt consolidation plan built around each member's balances, monthly capacity and goals, paired with loan offers so members can see their Approval Odds and apply with more confidence.

The results are already measurable. Members focused on reducing total interest are saving an average of $178 per month; those targeting lower monthly payments are saving an average of $314². Debt Assistant goes beyond recommending consolidation, it gives members a clear, specific path forward.

Under the hood, Debt Assistant layers the right AI techniques at the right stages. A financial optimization engine evaluates a member's real debt picture to recommend a tailored path forward, and a highly tuned LLM transforms that analysis into a personalized, step-by-step plan for taking control of their debt. This is agentic AI in practice: a system that doesn't just inform, but reasons and recommends on a customer's behalf. Debt Assistant is evolving even more to actively guide customers through their entire debt payoff journey.

Refund Assistant

For many members, a tax refund is the single biggest financial opportunity of the year. Intuit Consumer Platform has long helped members seize that moment faster, with offerings like Refund Advance and 5 Days Early. Now, Credit Karma is helping them make the most of it.

For members who've filed their taxes and are expecting a refund, Refund Assistant generates a personalized, AI-powered plan for how to put that money to work, before it even arrives. It recommends how to split that refund across debt paydown, building savings or covering essential expenses, based on each member's financial picture. The experience turns a fast-access-to-money moment into a fast-action-on-money moment. For the many members carrying revolving debt - they pay roughly $1,400 a year in interest on average - putting that refund toward their balance could save hundreds of dollars in annual interest. A single decision, made at the right moment, can change their financial trajectory for the rest of the year.

Paycheck Assistant

Budgeting is one thing. Knowing what to do the moment each paycheck lands is another. For members who have connected their bank accounts, Paycheck Assistant answers that question by surfacing a personalized, AI-generated plan for how to allocate that money across upcoming bills, day-to-day spending and financial goals, informed by their actual spending habits. For one of our customers with a savings goal, for example, Paycheck Assistant broke down their paycheck into a specific, prioritized plan that covered essentials, preserved funds for everyday spending, and directed over $1,500 toward their goal. A plan they didn't have to figure out themselves, built around their financial picture.

Paycheck Assistant is able to make a plan, as well as explain the reasoning it used to get there so members understand the 'why' behind each recommendation and can adjust the plan in real-time. And because a paycheck cycle doesn't end the moment the plan is made, members will soon be able to revisit and adjust their plan throughout their pay cycle, making it an intelligent money management tool.

Building toward something bigger

The tools above reflect what we believe is a fundamental shift in what a personal finance platform can and should do. It moves beyond informing members to actively working on their behalf. Whether that's mapping a path out of debt, finding the right loan, turning a refund into a financial plan or making the most of a paycheck, it all comes back to closing the gap between knowing and doing. As the year-round financial destination within Intuit's Consumer Platform, Credit Karma is where members live the other 364 days a year outside of tax season. This year, the average tax refund was $3,275. We help members access their refund at tax time, and save them hundreds of dollars a month on debt throughout the rest of the year. Across every major money moment, the goal is the same: more money back in members' pockets.

And we're not just meeting members inside the Credit Karma app. As part of Intuit's multi-year strategic partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, Credit Karma's financial intelligence is now available directly within ChatGPT and Claude. Today, members can access personalized credit insights, loan recommendations, spending insights and financial guidance grounded in their actual data, wherever they're seeking answers. It's an extension of the same core belief that the best financial tools are the ones that show up where you are, with information that's actually yours.

The Intuit Consumer Platform, which brings together Credit Karma and TurboTax, gives us something general-purpose AI tools can't replicate: a more complete view of a member's financial life, from their credit and debt to their taxes and spending. That's what makes personalized, proactive AI possible. It goes beyond answering questions by helping determine what to do next before a member even asks. The experiences we've built today are the foundation for something more expansive, a platform designed to act on members' behalf. That's the future we're building, and the momentum is real.
