Georgia State Ranks Among Nation’s Top 100 Public Universities, No. 1 Public for Undergraduate Teaching

No. 1 for Undergraduate Teaching for seventh consecutive year, Top 5 Most Innovative for 12th year in latest U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

ATLANTA - Georgia State University has reached a historic milestone in the 2027 edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges list with its highest ranking among the nation's Top 100 public universities.

U.S. News also once again ranked Georgia State as the top public university for Undergraduate Teaching, and it continues to rank the institution among the Most Innovative.

Georgia State climbed 10 spots on the list of the nation's Top 100 public universities to land at No. 99 with this year's rankings.

It retained its position as top among public institutions for Undergraduate Teaching for the seventh year in a row, a recognition of faculty and administrators' strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in a high-quality manner. And for the past 12 years, Georgia State has been among the nation's top five Most Innovative public universities, climbing two spots this year to No. 3.

"This is a historic moment for Georgia State. For the first time, we are ranked among the nation's Top 100 public universities while also being named the No. 1 public university for Undergraduate Teaching for the seventh consecutive year," said Georgia State President M. Brian Blake.

"These rankings reflect the extraordinary momentum of this university. We are No. 3 among public universities for Innovation, No. 2 for First-Year Experiences and continue to be nationally recognized for Social Mobility. Taken together, they tell a powerful story: Georgia State is rising nationally while staying true to what has always distinguished us - outstanding teaching, innovation and creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds to succeed."

Georgia State also once again ranked highly on several measures in the "Programs That Enhance Student Experience" category, which U.S. News calls "outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success."

For the eighth year in a row, Georgia State ranked among the country's top 10 public universities for its First-Year Experiences, landing at No. 2. The indicator measures how well a university builds into its curriculum first-year seminars or other academic programs that regularly bring small groups of students together with faculty or staff.

It also, for the eighth year in a row, ranked among the top 10 public universities in the country for Learning Communities, landing at No. 9. These programs offer students opportunities to take two or more linked courses as a group.

U.S. News also ranked Georgia State No. 18 for Social Mobility. The category is based on Pell Grant enrollment and graduation rates.

"Year after year, these rankings affirm what we know about the Georgia State experience: When we create opportunities for students to connect, engage and see a path forward, they are better positioned to succeed," said Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Nicolle Parsons-Pollard. "Our commitment to student success is about more than helping students earn a degree. It is about removing barriers, creating meaningful experiences and preparing every student to translate their education into opportunity in their careers and lives."

The J. Mack Robinson College of Business' undergraduate Information Systems and undergraduate Insurance programs retained their places among the nation's top 10 in the new rankings, at No. 8 and No. 4, respectively. The undergraduate Real Estate program ranked No. 18.

The program rankings are based on surveys of deans, senior faculty members and other top academic officials at peer institutions.
