Washington D.C - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement condemning Republicans for their Farm Bill that fails to address cuts to vital nutrition assistance programs, urging them to come back to the table and write a Farm Bill that will actually meet Americans' needs during a time that families are already struggling to put food on the table:
"Republicans' Farm Bill fails farmers, fails families, and fails the moment.
"Families are being crushed by grocery prices. Farmers are getting squeezed by sky-high diesel and fertilizer costs, insane tariffs, and rising bankruptcies. Rural communities need real support. And Republicans' answer is a bill that leaves out vital nutrition assistance for Americans struggling to put food on the table.
"But a Farm Bill that abandons hungry families is not a serious Farm Bill. It is a nonstarter.
"In the richest country in the world, no child should go hungry. No senior should have to choose between food and medicine. No veteran should be left behind. And no family farmer should be asked to survive on empty promises from Trump's Washington.
"I stand with Senator Klobuchar and Senate Agriculture Committee Democrats in urging Republicans to come back to the table and write a Farm Bill that actually meets the moment: supporting farmers, strengthening rural America, protecting families, and ensuring Americans have enough to eat."
