Fiji Airways Welcomes oneworld Colleagues from Around the World as Alliance Hosts First-Ever Meeting in Fiji

17 September 2026 - Nadi, Fiji: - Fiji Airways this week hosted senior leaders from oneworld and its member airlines in Fiji for the alliance's first-ever Management Board meeting held in the country. Delegates were welcomed with a traditional meke and kava ceremony. During the visit, the board learned about sustainability efforts on the islands and planted mangrove seedlings on the shoreline of Malamala Island.

"Our airline started 75 years ago as a small operation connecting Fiji to the world and joining oneworld is the next chapter of that story," said Paul Scurrah, MD & CEO of Fiji Airways. Having our oneworld partners here in our home, meeting our employees and standing with us to plant mangroves, felt like the right way to mark the occasion."

Fiji Airways became a full member of oneworld last year. The partnership means Fijian travellers can now connect on a single ticket into a global airline network spanning six continents, with loyalty benefits, shared lounge access and smoother transfers across the alliance's member airlines. For Fiji, it also cements the airline's role as the alliance's gateway into the heart of the South Pacific.

Hosting the meeting gave Fiji Airways the chance to welcome its global partners the way it welcomes every guest, with genuine Fijian hospitality, and to showcase the airline's sustainability efforts in the region. The mangrove planting activity gave visiting leaders a firsthand look at the "Every Take-off, One Tree" initiative launched in 2017. Since then, the airline has planted more than 101,000 mangroves in Fiji in partnership with the Ministry of Forestry.

Known as "rainforests of the sea," mangroves stabilise shorelines, sequester carbon and support rich marine biodiversity, playing a key role in reducing the impact of erosion and storm surge. Fiji Airways continues this restoration work through ongoing planting across the country.
