IDB Invest and Vientos Bonaerenses Strengthen Energy Security in Argentina

WASHINGTON - IDB Invest has approved a financing package of up to $100 million for Vientos Bonaerenses S.A., an AES Argentina company, to support the expansion of the Vientos Bonaerenses wind farm project in Argentina.

The investment will help strengthen the diversification of Argentina's energy matrix and increase private sector participation in energy supply. The new wind farms, Vientos Bonaerenses III and IV, located in the southern part of Buenos Aires Province, will provide approximately 370 GWh of additional electricity per year once operational, delivering competitively priced energy to commercial and industrial customers.

The project will add 102.4 MW of capacity to the Vientos Bonaerenses complex, bringing its total installed capacity to 202.2 MW.

The financing will be provided through an A/B loan structure of up to $100 million, consisting of an IDB Invest tranche of up to $20 million and a tranche of up to $80 million from international financial institutions. The transaction follows IDB Invest's Originate to Share business model, enabling the mobilization of long-term private capital for strategic energy infrastructure.

In addition to financing, IDB Invest will support the company in strengthening its environmental and social standards. The operation includes measures to further enhance occupational health and safety practices, grievance mechanisms, and community engagement, as well as an initiative aimed at supporting employee well-being and caregiving responsibilities among the company's workforce.
