A relentless 5-year investigation by Special Victims Division Detective Kevin Wiles led to the recent arrest and indictment of a 60-year-old serial rape suspect.
Garrick Oden, of LaVergne, was positively identified as the perpetrator in the cases of at least four women who reported being sexually assaulted between 2012-2018. Oden would reportedly stop to offer rides to women he saw walking, and instead of taking them to their desired locations, would drive them to remote areas to rape them.
Since the women did not know him personally, DNA evidence collected was crucial to linking the cases together forensically, then subsequently identifying the suspect through outstanding investigative work.
Oden was indicted on eight counts of rape. He remains in custody today on $600,000 bond.
Anyone who may have had interactions with Oden is asked to call the MNPD Special Victims Division at 615-862-7452.
