The Scion Group today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the operating platform of Student Quarters, an Atlanta-based owner and operator of purpose-built student housing. The portfolio includes nearly 13,000 beds across 21 markets, and represents approximately $1.5 billion in student housing assets under management.
Upon closing, the transaction will expand Scion's national platform to 190 communities and nearly 118,000 beds across 94 university markets, further establishing its position as the largest owner and operator of student housing globally.
"This acquisition caps a historic period of growth and investment for Scion," said Rob Bronstein, Chief Executive Officer of The Scion Group. "Student Quarters' experienced team and the quality of the assets and markets in which they're located make this a natural and compelling fit."
The transaction includes the acquisition of Student Quarters' operating platform and investment in underlying real estate and associated fund structures, further deepening Scion's capabilities as a vertically integrated owner and operator. Key members of the Student Quarters leadership team and its Atlanta office will be retained following closing.
The acquisition reflects broader structural trends in the student housing industry, where increasing complexity and competition are driving consolidation among scaled operators. Scion intends to continue pursuing strategic growth opportunities as the sector evolves.
