Question for written answer E-003955/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Sara Matthieu (Verts/ALE)

Hungary asked for EU financial support as part of its 2021 Territorial Just Transition Plan. In their final updated National Energy and Climate Plan submitted in 2024, the Hungarian authorities announced a delay to their coal phase-out plan, which is now set to take place 'by 2029 at the latest'.

  • 1.How does the Commission assess the consistency between the delay announced by Hungary and its ability to meet its 2030 climate and energy targets?
  • 2.Can the Commission outline what the expected consequences of the delay are in terms of the disbursement of EU funds under the Just Transition Fund? What level of policy and implementation decommitments are expected due to the delay in implementation and the policy mismatch?
