JUNEAU, Alaska - June's statewide job count fell 0.3 percent from June of last year, with government losses of 1,900 jobs more than offsetting the private sector's gain of 1,000.

The oil and gas sector added 900 jobs. Transportation, warehousing and utilities added 800 jobs, and health care and manufacturing each added 300.

Industries that lost jobs over the year included leisure and hospitality (-500), construction (-300), professional and business services (-200) and the information and wholesale industries (each down by 100).

The federal government cut 1,300 jobs in Alaska over the year. State government was down by 600 jobs, with losses in general government and the University of Alaska. Local government employment, which includes public schools, was flat.

Alaska's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.4 percent and the U.S rate was 4.2 percent. Both were marginally lower than in May.
