Minister Shahin Receives Credentials of the New Head of Portugal's Representative Office to the State of Palestine

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Shahin, received today, Monday, the credentials of Mr. José Guedes de Sousa, the new Head of the Representative Office of the Republic of Portugal to the State of Palestine.

Minister Shahin conveyed the State of Palestine's appreciation for Portugal's principled stance and its recognition of the State of Palestine, emphasizing that this historic decision reflects Portugal's commitment to international law and contributes to advancing a just and comprehensive peace in the region. She underlined the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations between Palestine and Portugal across various fields, including diplomacy, tourism, and culture. The Minister also encouraged Portugal to play an active role in international efforts aimed at rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
Minister Shahin affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and its staff stand ready to extend all necessary support to facilitate the new representative's mission in Palestine.
For his part, Mr. de Sousa expressed his honor in assuming his duties in Palestine at this pivotal time following his country's recognition of the State of Palestine. He affirmed Portugal's commitment to supporting the Palestinian Authority and underscored its vital role in administering and developing the Gaza Strip.
