Reduced lanes on Pikes Peak Avenue during bridge repairs

Motorists on Pikes Peak Avenue just east of downtown will experience a lane reduction eastbound and westbound beginning on Monday, July 6 as the City of Colorado Springs repairs the bridge over Shooks Run Creek.

One eastbound lane and one westbound lane of the bridge will remain open throughout the project, although the open lanes will shift at times. The project is expected to continue through October. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Work includes:

  • Repairing concrete on the bridge deck and installing a polyester concrete overlay
  • Repairing masonry pilasters, including securing caps and replacing missing stones
  • Repairing sidewalks on the bridge; at least one sidewalk will remain accessible throughout construction

Mountain Metro Transit bus stop ID 638, located on the south side of Pikes Peak Avenue, will be out of service between late August and late October.

The Shooks Run Trail, which passes beneath the bridge, is expected to remain open during the project.

Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time through the area.

The Pikes Peak Avenue bridge over Shooks Run Creek is 105 feet long and 83 feet wide. Built in 2003, the bridge is receiving routine maintenance funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
