On June 12, 2026, Dushanbe hosted the annual International Conference entitled "Central Asia - the Core of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: A Space of Peace and Shared Development", organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Centre in Tajikistan.
The Conference was inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, who highlighted the importance of Central Asia as a key area of interaction within the SCO framework and emphasized the continued relevance of strengthening cooperation in the interests of maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The Conference was organized as a continuation of the relevant provision first politically endorsed in the Dushanbe Declaration on the Twentieth Anniversary of the SCO, adopted in September 2021 in Dushanbe. This year's Conference was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization.
The Conference brought together Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SCO Member States, representatives of international and regional organizations, as well as ambassadors of SCO Member States and partner countries accredited to the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the opening ceremony, video messages were delivered by Secretary-General of the SCO, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
During the plenary session, heads of delegations from the SCO Member States exchanged views, including representatives of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Their statements addressed issues related to further strengthening mutual trust, expanding multilateral cooperation, and enhancing interaction across various sectors.
Particular attention was also given to presentations by representatives of international and regional organizations, including ESCAP, CICA, the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the CIS, the CSTO, the ECO, FAO, UNESCO, and other institutions. The speakers underscored the role of the SCO as an important platform for dialogue and coordination of efforts on key regional and international issues.
The Conference reaffirmed the commitment of the SCO Member States to strengthening constructive dialogue, advancing partnership, and deepening cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and consideration of each other's interests.
